KNVB and SciSports: ‘Collaboration for better and more exciting competitions’
Zeist, 7 February 2019 – The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and SciSports will collaborate aiming for better, more equivalent and more exciting amateur leagues. With the ‘eQuality Index’, developed by SciSports, data from the digital match forms from the ‘match-affairs-app’ will be translated into an index. This index makes it possible to map the quality of teams. This makes it possible for the KNVB to classify leagues better and more equal.
Pilot phase this season and next season, execution in 2020
The season 2018/19 and 2019/20 will be used to get and to provide a first version of the ‘eQuality Index’. KNVB and SciSports are aiming for using this index for the season 2020/21 within all levels of amateur football. Besides the new index also club preferences and travel distances remain their influence on league classification.
The KNVB and SciSports are convinced that using data insights will result in better and more equal competitions. KNVB research has shown that equal leagues are an important aspect for the joy and hapiness of 1.2 million members. Furthermore, the eQuality Index offers opportunities to organize leagues more effectively and efficiently, without requiring a lot of time from volunteers.
‘Equal competitions increases the joy and happiness of football players’
“An equal league increases the joy and happiness of lots of amateur players”, says Jan Dirk van der Zee, General Manager Amateur Football at KNVB. “In professional football, SciSports has already shown the possibilities of a similar index. With SciSports, we have found a partner who has experience with technical and complex problems in the world of football. The support of this index can really make some quality-improvements. Therefore, we are really looking forward to this cooperation.”
